Macon Stewart is a Senior Fellow and Deputy Director at the Center for Youth Justice, part of the Georgetown University McCourt School of Public Policy. She is recognized as a leading national expert on systemic reform for youth involved with multiple human service or legal systems, including authorship of the Crossover Youth Practice Model implemented in 100+ communities.
Her educational background includes a Master of Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh and a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Stewart's research focuses on the intersection of child welfare and juvenile justice, with current work centered on understanding and addressing the needs of Black Girls involved with multiple systems. Her scholarship spans racial justice, gender equity, and cross-system collaboration in youth legal frameworks.
She serves on the Justice Consortium for the National Child Traumatic Stress Network and the North Carolina Governor’s Crime Commission’s Racial and Ethnic Disparities Subcommittee, providing national leadership in trauma-informed approaches and equity-focused policy reform.
Beyond academia, Stewart actively contributes to community initiatives through the Rowan County Literacy Council Executive Board, the Salisbury-Rowan NAACP branch, and local middle school literacy volunteering, demonstrating commitment to micro and macro-level youth advocacy.
