Mackenzie Brewer is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Baylor University, joining the faculty in 2018. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Rice University (2018), an M.A. from Rice (2015), and a B.A. from Baylor (2011, cum laude). Her research focuses on medical sociology, social stratification, and the well-being of children and families, with particular attention to how religious involvement and economic factors influence health behaviors and outcomes.
Her work examines topics such as household food insecurity linked to religious practices, the impact of consumer debt on families, and disparities in healthcare access. Recent studies include analyses of disability-related financial hardships during the pandemic, parental work dynamics affecting children’s sleep, and religious affiliation’s role in contraceptive care and household debt patterns.
Dr. Brewer has collaborated with researchers like Tristen Clifton and Cassidy Castiglione. She advises students such as Kyra Davidson and maintains an active research agenda at Baylor’s sociology department. Her office is located in Tidwell 204.29.
