Macarena Marín Arancibia

Dr. Macarena Marín Arancibia is an Associate Professor at the Department of Plant Molecular Biology (DBMV) of the University of Lausanne (UNIL), where she has been since January 1, 2024. Her research focuses on the genetic innovations underlying legumes' ability to fix nitrogen symbiotically, with emphasis on molecular determinants of compatibility between symbiotic partners and variations in symbiotic efficiency.

Her work investigates how legumes host beneficial, parasitic, and commensal bacteria within root nodules to identify common principles and differences in microbial interactions. She previously led a research group at the Chair of Genetics at Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich (2015-2023) and was a postdoctoral fellow there (2010-2015).
