Dr Maca San Martin Porter is a Research Fellow at the Institute for Social Science Research within the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at The University of Queensland. She holds a PhD and Master of Public Health from UQ, following four years as a physiotherapist in Chile. Her work focuses on perinatal mental health, health behaviors, social determinants of health, and quantitative research methodologies.
Key Research Themes:
- Perinatal mental health interventions and their long-term child outcomes
- Social determinants influencing health behaviors and disparities
- Quantitative evaluation of refugee settlement programs (CRISP) and community support initiatives
- Life course approaches to child socio-emotional wellbeing
Recent Publications: Her 15 most recent works (2019-2024) cover quantitative analyses of perinatal depression screening, refugee integration programs, school management wellbeing surveys, and educational policy evaluations. These span public health, psychiatry, obstetrics, and social policy domains.
Funding: Currently evaluating Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care's Perinatal Mental Health initiatives (2024-2025), previously funded by Queensland Department of Justice (2023-2025) and Australian Government Department of Home Affairs (2022-2025).
Supervision: Available for PhD supervision in perinatal mental health, social determinants of health, and quantitative research methods. Currently advising two doctoral projects on family socioeconomic status impacts and out-of-home care effects on child wellbeing.
