استاد · Natural variation in Arabidopsis and barley
Graz University of Technologyمعرفی
Maarten Koornneef holds multiple prestigious academic positions: Honorary Professor at the University of Cologne (since 2006), Director and Head of the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics at the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research (since 2004), and Part-time Professor of Plant Genetics at Wageningen University. His career spans over four decades, progressing from Assistant Professor to his current leadership roles.
Education includes:
- PhD from Wageningen Agricultural University (1976-1982)
- MSc in Agriculture from Wageningen Agricultural University (1968-1974), specializing in Plant Breeding, Genetics, Horticulture, and Plant Taxonomy
His research focuses on natural variation in Arabidopsis and barley, quantitative genetics, and molecular population genetics. These interdisciplinary areas bridge plant biology and genetic analysis to understand evolutionary adaptations and breeding mechanisms.
Scientific honors include:
- Membership in the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina (2014)
- Election to the Academiae Europaea (2003)
- Foreign membership in the US National Academy of Sciences (1998)
- Fellowship in The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (1997)
- American Society of Plant Physiologists Award (1996)
- IPGSA Silver Medal (1995)
As Director at the Max Planck Institute, he leads the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, overseeing research teams focused on genetic mechanisms of plant adaptation and development.
