Research focuses on how Romanticism shapes modern cultural perceptions, the paradoxes of artistic engagement, and the interplay between aesthetics and morality. His De navel van Daphne critiques politically driven art’s moral boundaries, while Rousseau en ik deconstructs authenticity’s modern burdens. He lectures widely, from university halls to public salons, advocating for critical dialogue between art and society.
Recent activities include lectures on German cultural history, Romanticism’s legacy, and art’s role in crises (e.g., 2024 talks at Dordrecht Museum and Maastricht University). He received the Mondriaan Fund Fellowship for his exploration of art’s autonomy and engagement. His work blends academic rigor with accessible critique, shaping debates on culture’s societal role.
