Maarit Wirkkala is a doctoral student at the University of Gävle, supervised by Professor Maria Engstrom. Her research focuses on e-health within health sciences, particularly how digital healthcare alternatives impact staff work environments and patient safety, as well as the perceived quality of care in digital healthcare services.
Her interests span mental health, cognitive disabilities, public health, social medicine, ethics in healthcare, and patient safety. As part of a research project on digital healthcare chains in Region Gävleborg, she investigates healthcare consumption, quality of care, and staff well-being, funded by Region Gävleborg in collaboration with the University of Gävle until 2028.
