Mario Bonato is an Associate Professor at the Department of General Psychology, University of Padua. His research focuses on visuo-spatial attention, spatial cognition, and clinical neuropsychology with emphasis on stroke rehabilitation and numerical cognition. He develops computer-based diagnostic tools like Auto-GEMS and investigates the effects of cognitive load on spatial processing asymmetries.
His work spans neuropsychological assessment methods, including telemedicine approaches and virtual reality interventions. Key areas include the study of hemispatial neglect, temporal cognition, and the neural mechanisms underlying multitasking deficits. He has pioneered the use of transcranial electric stimulation to modulate attentional biases and explored how numerical concepts interact with spatial representations.
Recent studies examine pandemic-related psychological phenomena such as collective narcissism and unfounded beliefs, linking these to behavioral responses during crises. His research integrates neuroimaging techniques (EEG) and behavioral experiments to understand cognitive impairments in neurological populations.
