MARIA RAQUEL DOMINGUEZ GONZALEZ

Maria Raquel Dominguez Gonzalez serves as a Professor in the Department of Analytical Chemistry, Nutrition and Bromatology at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Santiago de Compostela. She maintains active affiliations with the Materials Institute (iMATUS) and the Strategic Grouping in Materials (AEMAT), contributing to interdisciplinary materials research initiatives.

Her doctoral training culminated in a 1996 thesis on Speciation of Fe, Cu and Zn in milk by liquid chromatography-atomic spectrometry, supervised by Dr. Pilar Bermejo Barrera and Dr. Adela Bermejo Barrera at the University of Santiago de Compostela. This foundational work established her expertise in elemental analysis within biological matrices.

Research interests center on advanced analytical methodologies for trace element speciation, with particular emphasis on food safety applications. As a core member of the GETEE Group (Trace Elements, Spectroscopy and Speciation), her work integrates atomic spectrometry and chromatographic techniques to address challenges in nutritional chemistry and environmental exposure assessment. Current projects leverage these capabilities within the university's Materials Institute framework to develop novel analytical approaches for complex matrices.

Institutional engagement extends to the Strategic Grouping in Materials (AEMAT), where she applies speciation expertise to materials characterization problems. Her laboratory infrastructure supports collaborative studies requiring precise metal speciation analysis, particularly for dairy and agricultural products.
