MARIA ENCARNACION GONZALEZ RUFINO

Maria Encarnacion Gonzalez Rufino is a full-time Researcher at the University of Vigo, affiliated with the School of Computer Engineering, Department of Computer Science, and the Institute of Physics and Aerospace Sciences at the Ourense campus. She is an active member of the LIA2 Applied Artificial Intelligence Laboratory research group.

She earned her Doctorate from the University of Vigo in 2016 with the thesis "Analysis of textures for the classification of cells in histological images of fish gonads", supervised by Dr. Pilar Carrión Pardo, Dr. Eva Cernadas García, and Dr. Arno Formella. Her academic background demonstrates expertise in computational analysis of biological systems.

Her research spans Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Computer Vision with specialized focus on medical and biological image processing. She applies texture analysis and classification algorithms to histological imaging, particularly in aquatic biology contexts, bridging computer science with life sciences research.

As part of the LIA2 Applied Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, she contributes to interdisciplinary projects developing AI solutions for complex image analysis problems, with emphasis on practical applications in biological and medical domains.
