MARIA DEL MAR VIÑA ROUCO

Maria Del Mar Viña Roco is a Researcher at the University of Santiago de Compostela's Department of English and German Philology, affiliated with the Teacher Training Faculty. Her research focuses on the historical development of language education in Spain, particularly the teaching of English from 1800-1936. She obtained her doctorate in 2000 with a thesis titled The teaching of living languages in Spain (1800-1936), with special reference to the English language, supervised by Dr. Teresa Fanego.

She was part of the DI-1924 Discourse and Identity research group, which explores English language, literature, and culture through multidisciplinary approaches. Her work bridges historical linguistics with educational methodologies, contributing to understanding the evolution of language pedagogy in Spanish academic contexts.
