M.O. Walsh is a Professor of Fiction and currently serves as the Director of The Creative Writing Workshop MFA program at the University of New Orleans (UNO). He holds an M.A. from the University of Tennessee and an M.F.A. from the University of Mississippi.
Walsh specializes in fiction writing, with a focus on literary fiction that often explores themes of memory, identity, and community. His work blends elements of mystery, coming-of-age narratives, and Southern Gothic storytelling, creating rich tapestries of human experience set against the distinctive backdrop of Louisiana. His writing has appeared in prestigious publications including The New York Times, The Guardian, Oxford American, The Southern Review, and Best New American Voices.
Walsh's publications show a consistent exploration of human potential, memory, and community dynamics, with his most recent work examining how knowledge of one's 'life potential' might transform ordinary lives. His books have been translated into numerous languages including UK English, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, French, Brazilian Portuguese, Hebrew, Serbian, Turkish, Korean, and Hungarian.
