M.E. Pieterse is an Associate Professor and Section Chair at the Department of Psychology, Health & Technology at the University of Twente. They hold a Master's in Health Promotion from Maastricht University and a PhD from the University of Twente, focusing on smoking cessation interventions in primary care. Previously worked at HHM consultancy and the National Institute for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (NIGZ).
- Research Focus: Addictive behaviors (tobacco, alcohol, gaming), cognitive bias modification, telemonitoring for addiction recovery, and healthcare environment design.
- Teaching: Health Psychology & Technology, Persuasive Health Technology Design, Advanced Research Methods.
- Expertise: eHealth intervention design, addiction prevention, implicit processes in health behavior, and institutional implementation strategies.
Current roles include leading the Psychology Health & Technology section and overseeing research projects integrating technology with behavioral health interventions.
