M. V. Ramana is a Professor and the Simons Chair in Disarmament, Global and Human Security at the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs (SPPGA) at the University of British Columbia. He also serves as the Graduate Program Director for the Master of Public Policy and Global Affairs (MPPGA) program.
- Ph.D. in Physics, Boston University
His research focuses on the intersection of international security and energy supply, particularly nuclear energy and fissile materials. He combines technical expertise with interdisciplinary methods to address policy-relevant questions, emphasizing nuclear weapons, disarmament, and the socio-environmental impacts of nuclear technologies.
Recent publications highlight trends in nuclear energy's role in climate policy, small modular reactors (SMRs), and the global proliferation of nuclear technologies. His work critically examines the economic viability, safety concerns, and environmental justice implications of nuclear power projects across multiple regions.
