M. Utku Ünver is a Professor of Economics at Boston College, specializing in microeconomic theory, market design, and healthcare resource allocation. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh and has held academic positions at Koç University and the University of Pittsburgh. His research focuses on kidney and liver paired exchange systems, scarce medical resource allocation, and fair distribution mechanisms. He has contributed to real-world applications, including the first optimized liver-paired exchange program in Turkey and the design of kidney exchange systems in the U.S. and globally.
- Education: B.Sc. Electrical Engineering (Bilkent University, 1993); M.A. Economics (University of Pittsburgh, 1997); Ph.D. Economics (University of Pittsburgh, 2000).
- Research Interests: Market design for organ exchange, pandemic resource allocation, mechanism design, and policy applications in healthcare.
His work has been recognized with awards such as the INFORMS Edelman Laureate (2014) and an honorary doctorate from İnönü University (2024). He serves as Editor-in-Chief of ACM Transactions on Economics and Computation and has advised major institutions on policy design.
