M. Sue Woodward

M. Sue Woodward is a full-time Lecturer in the Communications Department at West Virginia State University (WVSU). She transitioned to this role in Fall 2022 after serving as an adjunct instructor, following a 40-year career in fundraising. Originally from North Carolina, she holds a Bachelor’s in Speech and Theatre from the University of North Carolina Greensboro and a Master’s in Media Studies from WVSU (2021).

Her professional background includes roles such as Assistant Vice President for Advancement and VP for the WVSU Foundation. Notably, she worked with the American Red Cross to raise over $820 million for disaster relief after Hurricane Katrina and the Indian Ocean Tsunami. Woodward is also a published author and recipient of the 2012 Fundraiser of the Year Award.

While primarily focused on teaching, her academic interests align with communication strategies and nonprofit management, reflecting her extensive experience in organizational leadership and fundraising.
