M. Bartley Seigel is an Associate Professor in the Humanities department at Michigan Technological University, where he also serves as Director of the Michigan Tech Writing Center and advisor for the Michigan Tech Lode student newspaper. A former poet laureate of Michigan's Upper Peninsula and Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellow, Professor Seigel is deeply connected to the Keweenaw Peninsula region, which serves as both his home and creative inspiration.
Professor Seigel's educational background includes an MFA in Creative Writing from Pennsylvania State University and a BA in Journalism from Eastern Michigan University. His academic journey has positioned him at the intersection of literary arts and journalism, informing his teaching and creative practice.
Seigel's research and creative work focuses primarily on contemporary American poetry with special emphasis on nature poetry, regional literature of the Upper Midwest, and place-based writing.
