Benedikt Löwe is a Professor at the University of Hamburg since 2009 and holds affiliations with the University of Cambridge and Universiteit van Amsterdam. He is the head of the research group 'Mathematische Logik und interdisziplinäre Anwendungen der Logik' and chairs the CIPSH Chair 'Diversity of Mathematical Research Cultures and Practices'. At Cambridge, he serves as an Affiliated Lecturer in the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics and holds Bye Fellowships at multiple colleges. His academic career includes roles such as Universitair Hoofddocent at Universiteit van Amsterdam (2012–2023) and Privatdozent at the University of Hamburg (2007–2009).
Education: He earned a Master’s in Mathematics (Tübingen, 1996), a doctorate (Berlin, 2001), and Habilitation (Bonn, 2004). He also holds M.A. and Sc.D. degrees from the University of Cambridge.
Research focuses on foundational mathematics, set theory, and interdisciplinary applications of logic in fields like artificial intelligence and narratology. He has edited numerous journals, including as Managing Editor of Mathematical Logic Quarterly (2011–2022), and contributed to science governance roles such as Secretary General of the DLMPST/IUHPST and President of the DVMLG.
Key awards include the 2023 Fellowship of the International Science Council and membership in prestigious academies like the Académie Internationale de Philosophie des Sciences. He has held significant editorial and administrative roles, including Vice Director for Research at the ILLC (Amsterdam, 2021–2022).
