László Szarka is a Professor at the Department of History within the Faculty of Education at J. Selye University in Komárno, Slovakia. Professor Szarka's academic journey began with his university education at Comenius University in Bratislava, Faculty of Philosophy, where he studied history and Hungarian language and literature (1971-1976). He completed his doctoral studies at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest (1992-1995) and obtained his habilitation from Debrecen University in 2007. His scholarly credentials include the titles Dr. habil. and CSc., reflecting his significant research contributions.
His research interests center on three main areas: Slovak and Hungarian social and political history during the dualism period; national movements in Eastern and Central Europe in the 19-20th centuries; and nation states and national minorities in Central Europe between the two World Wars. His scholarly approach combines historical analysis with examination of political and social dynamics that shaped ethnic relations in the region. Professor Szarka has made significant contributions to understanding the complex interactions between majority and minority populations in Central Europe, particularly regarding Hungarian minorities in Slovakia.
His publication record is extensive, with 168 scholarly outputs documented in the CREPČ2 database and 196 citations. His recent work has focused on nationalism, historical memory, and ethnic relations in Central Europe, including the 2023 publication 'Nationalisms in Action: The Great War and Its Aftermath in East Central Europe' and the 2024 work 'Ťažké dedičstvo spoločnej uhorskej minulosti.' His research shows a consistent pattern of examining how historical events and policies have shaped contemporary ethnic relations and national identities in the region.

These projects reflect his ongoing commitment to examining historical and contemporary issues related to ethnic relations, minority rights, and educational inclusion in Central Europe.
