Lynn Marie Laufenberg is an Associate Professor of History at Sweet Briar College, where she also serves as Pre-law Advisor and Director of the Leadership Core. She is the contact for the Virginia at Oxford Program.
- B.A. in Classics from Northwestern University
- M.A. in European History from Cornell University
- Ph.D. in Medieval Studies from Cornell University
Dr. Laufenberg specializes in pre-modern history (ancient to Scientific Revolution), US and international legal systems, social/gender history, and archival research. Her research focuses on crime, law, and marginalized groups in medieval and Renaissance Italy, particularly the re-emergence of slavery in medieval Florence. She emphasizes how historical knowledge informs modern foundations through courses like “Building the Past” (ancient/medieval construction) and “Crime and Punishment in the West.”
