Lynn Lewis is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Mary Washington (UMW), located within the College of Arts and Sciences. She earned her B.S. in Biology (1982) and Ph.D. in Microbiology (1987) from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Currently, she serves as Chair of Biological Sciences and Director of the Sciences in the UMW College of Arts and Sciences.

Dr. Lewis specializes in microbiology and virology, with expertise in disease mechanisms, microbial physiology, and veterinary microbiology. Her research focuses on bacteriophages (viruses that infect bacteria), and her students have presented findings at the Virginia Academy of Science and the Virginia Branch of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM).
She is actively involved in the academic community, serving as Treasurer and member of the Virginia Branch of the ASM, where she leads discussions on undergraduate microbiology education. Recent recognition at the UMW Fall 2023 Faculty Meeting highlights her contributions to academia and community engagement.
