Dr. Lynn Hancock is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology (Criminology) at the University of Liverpool, affiliated with the School of Law and Social Justice within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. She holds a BA (Hons) and PhD. Her research focuses on criminological theory, urban policy, social welfare, and civic engagement in marginalized communities. She teaches modules such as Community and Public Involvement in Crime and Criminal Justice and Controlling Crime - An Introduction. Her work examines topics like fear of crime, territorial stigmatization, and the intersection of criminal justice systems with citizenship.
Professional activities include editorial roles for Safer Communities: A journal of practice, opinion, policy and research, and presentations at conferences like the RGS-IBG Annual Conference and the British Society of Criminology events. She has held roles such as Chair of the School Academic Quality and Standards Committee and member of the BSC Prizes Committee. Her research highlights issues of inequality, urban regeneration, and the sociopolitical dimensions of crime control.
