Lynn Campbell

Lynn Campbell is a Programme Leader and Lecturer at the Institute for Northern Studies, University of the Highlands and Islands. She oversees the BA Honours Culture and Heritage degree, eight joint Honours programmes, and the Cert HE Highland Heritage for Tourism programme. A lifelong resident of Orkney, she has been a tour guide since 2004 and trains guides in Orkney and the North Highlands. She is a trustee of the Orkney Natural History Society Museum and Orkney Heritage Society.

Education:

• BA Cultural Studies of the Highlands and Islands
• MSc Interpretation: Management and Practice
• MLitt in Orkney and Shetland Studies
• Part-time PhD candidate (thesis: "Orkney through the Lens of the Kirk: 1690–1750")

Research Interests: Focused on Orkney’s heritage, history, and religious institutions. Her work bridges historical interpretation, museum studies, and the intersection of culture and tourism. She actively contributes to safeguarding Orkney’s cultural legacy through academic and community engagement.

Teaching and Leadership: Leads modules such as Scotland the Brand, Displaying the Past: Museum Studies, and Introduction to Highlands & Islands Tourism. Her academic responsibilities emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to heritage, culture, and community.
