Lynn Burley is a Professor of Linguistics at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA), affiliated with the School of Language and Literature and the Department of Writing. She joined UCA in 1998, leading the development of the Linguistics program, including establishing the Linguistics minor (2002) and the BA in Linguistics (2008). Her teaching spans courses like Sociolinguistics, Morphology, and Study Abroad programs in Europe.
Dr. Burley holds a Ph.D. from Purdue University. Her research focuses on sociolinguistics, language policy, Native American translation, and composition pedagogy. Notable works include her case study on English as an official language (2015), recognized by the STIRS Scholar Award (2014).
Her service contributions include leadership roles: President of UCA's Faculty Senate, Chair of the Faculty Handbook Committee, and President of the AAUP's Richard Hudson Chapter. Professional service includes roles with the Linguistic Society of America and Educational Testing Service (AP/GRE/CLAP exam development).
Her awards highlight both scholarly and service excellence: the AAC&U's STIRS Award and UCA's Public Service Award (2013). She has authored video scripts for 'Grammar Tips for Students' and contributed to national educational initiatives through workshops on online course design and linguistics pedagogy.
