Lynell Martinez is an Assistant Professor of Biology at Covenant College since 2022. She holds a Ph.D. in Physiology and Biophysics from the University of Miami and a B.S. in Microbiology and Molecular Neuroscience from the University of Florida. Her research focuses on the intersection of neurophysiology and pedagogy, leveraging brain science to enhance student learning and cognitive development. Her work bridges molecular mechanisms of neural function with educational practices.
Her publications include studies on bacteriorhodopsin structure-function relationships (e.g., in Proteins and Biochimica et Biophysica Acta) and neurotrophic factor regulation in neuroblastoma cells (European Journal of Pharmacology). She emphasizes collaborative, faith-integrated learning environments at Covenant College.
Outside academia, Martinez enjoys backpacking, cooking, and springboard diving-inspired hobbies like hiking in natural settings.
