Lyndsey Housden is a Lecturer in the Interactive/Media/Design department at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK), The Hague. Her artistic and research practice focuses on architectural interventions that explore how spatial qualities influence human behavior and perception. She creates site-specific installations using haptic materials and interdisciplinary collaborations with technologists, dancers, and composers.
Her work interrogates architecture's psychological and sensory impacts through embodied research methods, drawing parallels to dance practices. Notable projects include Flatland (2015), an immersive pitch-black installation, and Chasm (2018), part of the Architectural Healing exhibition. She also conducts residencies at institutions like AMOLF Soft Robotics Matter Lab and V2_.
In her research, Housden investigates musical composition techniques (e.g., rhythm, harmony) as tools for spatial design, aiming to develop contemplative architectural spaces. She collaborates within the Platform for Arts Research in Collaboration (PARC) and previously worked with choreographer Jonas Staal.
Outside her artistic practice, she teaches Hatha yoga at KABK and has exhibited internationally at venues including STRP Festival (NL), Today’s Art Tokyo (JP), and the International Light Art Museum in Unna (DE).
