Lyndsey Bakewell is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader in Drama and Theatre Arts at De Montfort University's School of Humanities and Performing Arts. Her academic career spans research and teaching roles in interdisciplinary applied theatre, storytelling, and performance studies.
Education: PhD in Drama (Loughborough University, 2016), MA in Early Modern Writing (Loughborough), BA in Theatre and Professional Practice (Coventry).
Research focuses on:
- Cabaret/political performance (burlesque studies)
- Applied theatre for mental health/social justice
- Restoration theatrical practices (1660–1714)
- Creative resilience in cultural sectors post-pandemic
Current projects:
- CERTiFY: Erasmus+ project addressing creative sector employment challenges
- CREATIVITY: Developing transversal skills for cultural workforce resilience
Supervising three PhDs in Chinese arts education and Indian performance traditions.
Teaching areas include political performance, theatre history, and community theatre practices.
