Dr. Fred Dalmasso is a Senior Lecturer in Drama at Loughborough University's School of Design and Creative Arts (SDCA), where he also serves as Deputy Director of Doctoral Programmes. He holds an MA in Comparative Literature (University of Paris X-Nanterre), an MA in History of Art (University of Reading), and a PhD in Drama (Loughborough University). His research focuses on practice-based theatre translation, performance philosophy, and the intersections of theatre with politics and philosophy. He leads the Politicised Practice Research Group and is artistic director of performance collective collect-ifs.
Research interests include:
- Performance and political theory
- Rhythm in drama and its philosophical implications
- Ethics of play in contemporary performance
- Interdisciplinary approaches to theatre
His work explores how performance can challenge political representation and engage with global issues through syncopolitical frameworks. Recent publications address drone imagery in revolt, earpiece performance ethics, and Derrida/Benjamin's influence on theatre.

Teaching focuses on 20th/21st-century visual and performing arts in political/philosophical contexts. He supervises doctoral candidates across SDCA and has pioneered experimental performance projects addressing citizenship and global citizenship.
