Lydia McKeown is a PhD researcher at the School of Psychology, Queen's University Belfast, focusing on adolescent mental health in the context of parental cancer. Her work bridges clinical psychology, oncology, and developmental psychology.
Her primary research explores loneliness in adolescents with parents diagnosed with cancer, addressing a critical gap in understanding how this vulnerable population copes with dual stressors of adolescence and parental illness. Using mixed-method approaches including systematic reviews and participatory research, she investigates psychological vulnerabilities and develops theoretical models for intervention. Secondary research examines Dark Tetrad personality traits and mental health impacts during global crises.
Her publications demonstrate expertise in systematic review methodologies (JBI, COSMIN) and qualitative analysis of lived experiences. Key themes include measurement validation, adolescent vulnerability, and crisis-induced social isolation.
