Lukáš Makky is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Aesthetics and Art Culture within the Faculty of Arts at the University of Prešov, specializing in aesthetic theory, prehistoric art interpretation, and structuralist analysis. His academic journey includes degrees in History, English Literature, and Aesthetics, culminating in a 2015 doctoral thesis on prehistoric aesthetics. Makky's research explores aesthetic frameworks for ancient artifacts, poststructuralist theory, and definitions of art. His work consistently addresses the boundaries of artistic interpretation across historical periods. His publications demonstrate a focus on semiotic analysis of prehistoric cultures, ethical dimensions of authenticity, and critical reappraisals of Walter Benjamin's theories.
He has led multiple grants including VEGA projects on Slovak aesthetic history and KEGA initiatives on empathy in art education. As principal investigator for '150 Years of the End of Art' (2017-2020), he examined philosophical perspectives on artistic evolution. His editorial work includes volumes on peripheral art spaces and metamorphoses in cultural centers.
Makky is an active member of the International Association for Aesthetics and Society for Aesthetics in Slovakia. He serves on editorial boards while teaching courses spanning film theory, art interpretation, and critical analysis at bachelor's and master's levels.
