Luke Wilson is an Adjunct Professor at the La Trobe Business School, focusing on policy and economics. He concurrently serves as Chairperson of Dairy Food Safety Victoria and board member of Wodonga TAFE and Victoria's Game Management Authority. Previously, he held the role of Victoria’s first Cross Border Commissioner (2018–2024), where his advocacy during crises like the 2019/20 bushfires and pandemic-era border restrictions earned him the Public Service Medal (PSM) in 2025.
Wilson’s education includes a Bachelor of Forest Science from the University of Melbourne (1985–1988), a Graduate Diploma in Economics from La Trobe University (1991), a Graduate Diploma in Management from Australian Catholic University (2001–2003), and an Executive Certificate in Public Leadership from the Harvard Kennedy School (2010–present). His professional certifications include the Company Directors Course from the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD).
His research interests span agricultural economics, public policy development, regulatory frameworks for utilities, competition policy, and sustainable practices. He emphasizes regional and rural policy challenges, including land use planning, drought resilience, and social license in resource extraction industries. His work aligns with Sustainable Development Goals 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).
Luke’s career includes roles with the Victorian Government’s Agriculture, Resources, and Energy portfolios; the Essential Services Commission of South Australia in energy/transport regulation; PwC as an economic consultant; and the Commonwealth’s Industry/Productivity Commission. He began his career as a forester in Myrtleford, Victoria, expanding to Alabama (USA) and Nova Scotia (Canada).
He actively advises through his private firm LCW Advisory, and contributes to La Trobe’s governance via the Business School Advisory Board, Albury-Wodonga Campus Regional Advisory Board, and the La Trobe Institute for Sustainable Agriculture & Food (LISAF) Research & Industry Advisory Group.
