Luke W. Ayers is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Psychology Department at Widener University. His research focuses on behavioral neuroscience, exploring the interplay between physiological processes, behavior, and mental states. He holds a PhD in Behavioral Neuroscience from the University of Delaware (2013) and a BA in Psychology from Arcadia University (2008).
His research interests include fear, anxiety, stress, hunger, and habit-like behaviors, with expertise in psychopharmacology, hormonal influences on behavior, and addiction. He mentors undergraduate students in empirical research projects, emphasizing hands-on experimental design and implementation.
Ayers has contributed to studies on oxytocin’s role in anxiety reduction, predator odor responses in rats, and food preference dynamics. His work bridges basic neuroscience and applied behavioral studies. He is affiliated with the American Psychological Association (APA), Society for Neuroscience (SfN), and Society for the Teaching of Psychology (STP).
