Luke Georghiou

Professor Luke Georghiou is Deputy President and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Manchester, where he leads research strategy implementation and business engagement. He is also a Professor of Science and Technology Policy and Management at the Alliance Manchester Business School, affiliated with the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research. Since 1977, he has been active in innovation policy research through roles at PREST and its successor institute.

Research Focus: His work spans innovation management, public procurement policy, foresight methodology, and evaluation of R&D initiatives. Scientific Leadership includes shaping the European Research Area through the High-level Expert Group and advising UK government via the Glover Committee. He has authored influential reports like Creating an Innovative Europe and contributed to journals such as Science and Nature.

Supervision and Collaboration: He has mentored 6 formal research projects and serves on the European Universities Association Council for Doctoral Education. His work intersects with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly through innovation policy for societal challenges.
