Luke Child is a PhD Researcher and Associate Lecturer in Music Technology at the University of the West of England, within the Department of Computer Science and Creative Technologies. He holds an MSc and BSc (Hons) and teaches courses in audio processing, programming, and interaction design. Luke specializes in sonic interaction design and accessibility research.
His research explores The Affordances of Sonic Interaction Design in Creating Accessible Narrative and Navigation Experiences in Virtual Video Game Environments, supervised by Dr. Natanya Ford and Prof. Tom Mitchell. Key research interests include:

- Spatial audio implementation
- Game accessibility frameworks
- Inclusive design methodologies
- Human-computer interaction for audio systems
Luke supervises final-year projects and teaches modules including Introduction to Audio Programming (C++ focus) and Research and Practice in Creative Technology. His collaborative supervision approach emphasizes lifelong learning and networking in these specialized domains.
Beyond academia, Luke works as a musician in multiple bands (Cosmic, Scrub) and actively advocates for accessibility in gaming as a neurodivergent, color-deficient gamer. He holds Level 1 British Sign Language certification and is pursuing WAI-ARIA web accessibility accreditation.
