Luke Reed is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Lead for BSc Audio & Music Technology and BSc Creative Music Technology at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), affiliated with the Department of Computer Science and Creative Technologies. With a background as a professional sound recordist and editor for film, TV, and games, he maintains industry connections as a council member of the Association of Motion Picture Sound (AMPS) and co-directs the audio post-production company YXO Studios.
His research focuses on immersive audio practices and digital skills pedagogy, specifically exploring VR/AR systems, 3D audio, game sound design, and future media workflows. Projects include acoustic environmental monitoring, VR heritage experiences, and metaverse prototypes. Recent publications emphasize immersive audio reproduction techniques and frameworks for digital intrapreneurship in higher education.
Luke has led major institutional initiatives including The Foundry (a government-funded Institute of Coding project developing interdisciplinary tech skills) and the Prevail Festival (commissioning student work for Bristol Beacon). He also founded UWE's Enterprise Studios to bridge academia and industry through paid student projects.
