Dr. Luke Bussiere serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology, Biochemistry, and Neuroscience at Viterbo University's School of Natural Science, Mathematics, and Engineering. Based in RCE 218 office with contact email ldbussiere@viterbo.edu, he holds a PhD from Iowa State University and a BS from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
- PhD: Iowa State University
- BS: University of Wisconsin-Green Bay
His research program centers on microbial solutions for human disease through two primary avenues: investigating mammalian orthoreovirus (reovirus) for oncolytic cancer therapy targeting high-metastatic-potential tumors, and identifying novel antibiotic-producing soil bacteria to combat global antibiotic resistance. His lab specifically examines La Crosse region soil microbiota for new antimicrobial compounds.
Dr. Bussiere leads an active research laboratory addressing critical challenges in oncology and infectious disease. While clinical trials demonstrate reovirus safety, his work focuses on patient stratification for optimal therapeutic response. His antibiotic discovery pipeline directly confronts rising antimicrobial resistance through environmental microbiome exploration.
