Dr. Luisa Kaluza is a Clinical Assistant Professor affiliated with the University of Bonn's Medical Faculty. She holds dual roles within the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy (Section for Medical Psychology) and the Clinic for Neuromuscular Diseases at the Center of Neurology. Her clinical work and research focus on neuromuscular diseases, neurobiological mechanisms of action control, and the interplay between systemic factors (e.g., inflammation) and cognitive/behavioral processes.
She completed her medical degree at RWTH Aachen University and earned a doctorate in neurophysiology studying sodium channels and generalized pain syndromes. Since 2019, she has worked as a junior doctor at the University Hospital Bonn, specializing clinically and scientifically in neuromuscular disorders. She joined the Neuro-aCSis fellowship in 2023 to investigate metaflammation (chronic low-grade inflammation linked to obesity) and its effects on motivational/reward behavior, exploring transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation as a potential model.
Her research integrates clinical practice with translational neuroscience, addressing how systemic inflammation influences behavior and reward systems. She collaborates with the NeuroMAD Lab (https://neuromadlab.com/de/) and contributes to sustainable healthcare initiatives through her clinical work.
