Luis Schenoni is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Security Studies Programme in the Department of Political Science at University College London (UCL). He is also a member of the Conflict & Change research group, where he contributes to academic initiatives including the annual PhD Workshop on Peace and Conflict Studies.
His research centers on Security Studies, War and State Formation, Latin American Politics, Military History, and Political History. Schenoni recently published the monograph Bringing War Back In: Victory, Defeat, and the State in Nineteenth-Century Latin America (Cambridge University Press), which develops a novel theory linking war outcomes to long-term state development in Latin America. The work examines how 19th-century military victories and defeats continue to shape contemporary state structures, emphasizing the contingency of warfare and its enduring institutional consequences. His research integrates historical analysis with political science frameworks to explore the causal mechanisms between conflict and governance.
