Luis Peña is a Professor of Hispanic Studies at Davidson College, affiliated with both the Hispanic Studies and Latin American Studies departments, based in Chambers 3290 with contact email lupena@davidson.edu.
His academic background includes a B.A. from Universidad de Monterrey, and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Arizona State University.
Specializing in 20th century Latin American literature and culture, Professor Peña's research critically examines Mexican studies and U.S.-Mexico border cultural production through literature, film, and popular media. His work analyzes national allegories, postmodern Latin American literary theories, and the intersection of ideologies, politics, and aesthetics in contemporary contexts, with particular focus on migration narratives and gender representations.
He has supervised senior theses on border documentaries, Tijuana's urban mythologies, border fence photography, and Northern Mexican narratives. Currently, he is authoring a manuscript exploring border representations in literature and film.
