Luis Hernandez-Garcia, Ph.D., is a Research Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan. He is affiliated with the Functional MRI Laboratory and serves as Co-Director of the Animal MRI Facility. His research focuses on developing arterial spin labeling (ASL) techniques for quantitative perfusion imaging and non-invasive brain stimulation methods, including transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and focused ultrasound neuromodulation.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering (1994-1998), University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
- M.S. in Biomedical Engineering (1992-1994), University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
- B.S. in Applied Science (1988-1992), University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Research Interests:
- Development of ASL methods for perfusion imaging
- Integration of ASL with functional MRI
- Non-invasive brain stimulation technologies (TMS, focused ultrasound)
- Collaborations in cognitive neuroscience and neurology, including studies on attention, memory, pain, and depression
Key Contributions:
- Advancements in ASL kinetic modeling and signal quantification
