Luis Berríos-Negrón is an Associate Professor at Umeå School of Architecture (Umeå University). As an environmental artist and experimental architect, he explores intersections between climate crisis, decolonial practices, and geoengineering. His work reimagines spatial practices through transhemispheric ecological collaborations and art-based research.

His research focuses on tree nurseries as cultural and technological sites for decolonial reforestation, and reinterprets Walter Benjamin’s Arcades Project through Caribbean climate perspectives. Recent publications examine greenhouse parastructures, hurricane remediation, and tree nursing as forms of environmental art. His teaching emphasizes life-affirming architectures and collaborative AI tools.
Scientific awards include:

He founded the art collectives Anxious Prop, Paramodular, and Transhemisférica, fostering cross-continental collaborations. His exhibitions span MIT, Berlin, Puerto Rico, Brazil, and Denmark.
