Luis Achondo is an Assistant Professor at Memorial University. He earned his Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from Brown University after completing a Master’s and Bachelor’s in Music at Universidad de Chile. His research examines sound as a mediator of political, ecological, and necropolitical relations in Latin America.

Research Interests span Latin American expressive cultures, with a focus on football fandom, anthropogenic violence, and the Mapuche community’s sonic ecologies. His forthcoming book The Sounds of Aguante analyzes sound in South American football cultures.
Disciplinary Contributions appear in journals like Journal of Latin American and Caribbean Anthropology, Twentieth-Century Music, and Ethnomusicology Forum, reflecting interdisciplinary engagement across musicology, anthropology, and sound studies.
