Luigi Rovati

Luigi Rovati is a Full Professor at the Department of Engineering 'Enzo Ferrari', University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. His research focuses on advanced sensors and instrumentation for biomedical, automotive, and industrial applications.

• Key research areas: optoelectronic instrumentation, optical retroreflection, non-invasive blood monitoring, and nanoparticle detection.
• He leads the Measurements, Instrumentation and Sensors Group, which moved from the University of Brescia to Modena in 2001. The group operates four laboratories: OptoLab, BrightLab, MS2, and ASELab.

His recent publications address LiDAR performance in fog, bioprinted tissue models for fibrosis, self-powered biosensors, and impedance spectroscopy for nano-plastics. The group supports technology transfer, spin-off development, and industry collaboration.

Current teaching activities include courses on Hardware and Software Co-Design and Optoelectronic Instrumentation and Sensors for the Master's Degree in Electronic Engineering.
