Lue Ping Zhao is a Professor in the Biostatistics Program within the Public Health Sciences Division at Fred Hutch. He serves as Head of the Genetic Epidemiology and Microarray Technology Affinity Group and is a Member of the Translational Data Science Integrated Research Center (TDS IRC), with additional affiliation as an Affiliate Investigator in the Clinical Research Division.
His educational background includes:
- PhD in Biostatistics from the University of Washington (1989)
- MS in Biostatistics from the University of Washington (1987)
- MS in Statistics in Health Science from Shanghai Medical University (1985)
- BS in Computer Science from Shanghai University of Science and Technology (1982)
Dr. Zhao specializes in developing statistical methodologies for genetic and genomic research, with emphasis on genome-wide association studies, haplotype-based analysis, and time-varying phenotype modeling. His work bridges bioinformatics, epidemiology, and clinical applications to accelerate translation of big data into preventive medicine and cancer research, particularly through solid-tumor growth analysis using SNP arrays and sequencing technologies.
He leads interdisciplinary collaborations through the Genetic Epidemiology and Microarray Technology Affinity Group and the Translational Data Science IRC, focusing on integrating genetic and environmental data for disease risk prediction and variant discovery in emerging pathogens like SARS-CoV-2.
