Ludwig Hoeksema serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Management and Organisation at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam's School of Business and Economics, integrating academic research with practical consultancy through his partnership at Strategic Management Centre. With over two decades of leadership experience across Energy, Financial Services, Healthcare, and Products sectors, he specializes in bridging theoretical frameworks with real-world strategic execution and organizational behavior.
His educational foundation includes a PhD in Psychology (1993) focused on Learning strategy as a guide to career success in organisations, establishing the psychological basis for his current research.
Hoeksema's research centers on strategy realisation, influencing behaviour, and human resource management, with significant contributions to understanding work engagement dynamics and supervisory board effectiveness. His interdisciplinary approach combines psychological insights with business strategy to develop practical frameworks for organizational alignment and behavioral change, particularly examining how experimentation enables strategic agility while maintaining organizational coherence.
Recent publications (2022-2024) reveal a cohesive trajectory exploring strategic navigation in volatile environments, with key themes including innovation-project alignment, team engagement climates, and governance structures. These works demonstrate consistent integration of psychological principles with strategic management, emphasizing context-dependent solutions for organizational challenges across multiple sectors.
Hoeksema leads the Consultancy Research Centre and has supervised one PhD thesis. His project Het einde van strategie?! (2021-2022), funded by Stichting Management Studies, investigated balancing strategic flexibility with directional consistency through empirical case studies in professional services organizations.
He actively contributes to organizational practice through the Consultancy Research Centre, which serves as a nexus for academic-practitioner collaboration in management consulting. His ancillary activities include strategic advisory roles at CED Groep (2018-2026) and leadership positions in Stichting JobRotary and Stichting Strategic Management Centre, directly applying research insights to supervisory board governance and organizational development initiatives.
