Dr. Ludwig Carlos Nitsche is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), affiliated with the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from MIT. His expertise spans fluid mechanics, transport phenomena, applied mathematics, and their applications in drug delivery and porous media flow. Dr. Nitsche has served in leadership roles, including Associate Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at UDC (2019–2024) and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Affairs at the University of Illinois Chicago (2015–2019).
His research focuses on fluid dynamics, numerical simulations of particle behavior, and thermal energy storage systems. He has published extensively on topics like colloid transport, drug diffusion through skin barriers, and phase change materials. Dr. Nitsche has received multiple teaching awards, including the Harold A. Simon Award for Excellence in Teaching and multiple Faculty Teaching Awards from the University of Illinois Chicago.
