Lucy Smith is a Part-Time Lecturer in the Department of Classics and Ancient History at Durham University. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Classics under the supervision of Professor Jennifer Ingleheart, focusing on the embodiment of deities in the Elegies of Tibullus. Her research integrates Roman poetic aesthetics, visual culture, and ritual practices to analyze Tibullus' portrayal of divine bodies and their relationships with elegiac themes.
Smith holds a BA/LLB conjoint degree from the University of Auckland (2018), a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Latin (2019), and a Master of Arts (2020), where her thesis, supervised by Associate Professor Marcus Wilson, explored Ovid's Fasti. Her doctoral work examines how Tibullus' divine figures reflect broader societal and literary dynamics in ancient Rome.
Her recent scholarly contributions span biomedical research, including studies on skin pigmentation modulation, stem cell-derived tissue engineering, and cellular senescence in aging. This interdisciplinary engagement underscores her expertise in both classical studies and cutting-edge biological research methodologies.
Despite no listed scientific awards or grants, her academic trajectory highlights a commitment to bridging classical literary analysis with innovative scientific techniques.
