Lucy Porritt is a Lecturer in the Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver Campus), within the Faculty of Science. Her research focuses on kimberlite volcanology, particularly diamond-bearing deposits in Canada's Northwest Territories, and basaltic eruptions in Hawaii. She also explores geoscience education, including field-based courses and curriculum development for international programs. Porritt holds a PhD from Monash University (2008) and has held prestigious fellowships including a Commonwealth Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (2009) and a European Union Marie Curie Research Fellowship. She collaborates globally, contributing to the University of Central Asia’s Earth and Environmental Sciences program.
Her teaching spans undergraduate geoscience courses and international initiatives like the Vancouver Summer Program. Notable research areas include kimberlite emplacement mechanisms, glaciovolcanism, and explosive eruption dynamics. Porritt’s fieldwork emphasizes the Lac de Gras kimberlite field and subglacial volcanic systems in British Columbia.
