Lucy Heckman is an Associate Professor at St. John’s University Libraries and serves as Head of Reference. Specializing in Business and Economics librarianship, she acts as the Library liaison to the Peter J. Tobin College of Business. Her academic background includes a MLS from St. John’s University (1977) and a BA from the same institution (1976), alongside an MBA from Adelphi University (1983). Her research focuses on business information resources, sport management documentation, and insurance-related literature. She is a member of the American Library Association’s Business Reference and Services Section (BRASS) and co-convenes the METRO Economics and Business Librarians Special Interest Group.
Prof. Heckman has authored multiple authoritative guides including works on the New York Stock Exchange, NASDAQ, and franchising. Her presentations address topics like business ethics and sustainability reference strategies. She contributes to peer-reviewed journals as an editorial board member for the Journal of Business and Finance Librarianship and reviews books for Library Journal. Her professional service includes roles in the Committee on Learning Resources and Technology and collaborative presentations on legal/business reference strategies.
