Kathryn Shaughnessy is an Associate Professor in the University Libraries at St. John’s University, serving as Scholarly Communications and Affordable Learning Librarian, and Associate University Librarian for Teaching, Research and Scholarship since 2021. Her roles include managing the University’s Institutional Repository (St. John’s Scholar), promoting Open Access, Open Educational Resources (OER), and addressing ICT ethics and accessibility in education. She holds an MLS from St. John’s University (2006), an M.A. in Philosophy from Fordham University (1992), and a B.A. in Philosophy from Loyola College (1989).
Her research focuses on information ethics, ICT literacy, and social justice in library professions. She co-led a National Archives grant project integrating digital historical records into NYC public school curricula and collaborates with the Vincentian Center for Church and Society on social justice initiatives. She has served on leadership boards of the Catholic Library Association and ACRL/NY.
Shaughnessy’s presentations include work on open resources, immigration history projects, and accessible design. She teaches graduate courses in information literacy, library services for diverse populations, and college/university libraries. She is a Philosophy and Social Justice liaison, emphasizing Vincentian values in academic and civil sectors.
